Black, White, Who is innocent?

In this essay, Shelby Steele writes about weather whites or blacks are to blame for the problems socially backs have. He also writes about who is the more innocent race, and does racism exist like we think it does today?
I agree with alot of what Steele writes in her essay. Innocence is key in believing one is more powerful than another. Because of slavery and victimization, blacks feel like whites and society owe them something. If whites feel guilty then they are giving up that power over to the blacks, giving up the so called innocence. That is how blacks gain power. Whites gain power by realizing that in order to give up there power they must feel guilty, thus they already had the power to begin with. I understand completely what Steele is saying, but it is very difficult to portyray that same thing I understand in to words.
Bargaining and challenging are ways in which blacks lay claim to innocence. Steele brings up Bill Cosby as an example as one who bargains. Cosby never mentions race, or racism, nor challeges whites at all in the show. In doing so he makes whites feel more comfortable and give Cosby more credibility and innocence. Blacks love it because his family is the black American dream. No drugs, college stuents, and doctor and lawyer for the parent's occupations. Challenging is done by Many that bring up the white and black issue, and try to use that as leverage or an excuse as to why they are the way they are.
